The term all terrain vehicle or more commonly known as ATV are used by small open motorized tricycles or trykes and quadrangles or quads; these are designed for off the road use. But the American National Standards Institute or the ANSI defines an ATV as a vehicle that can travel on a low pressure tires with a seat and handle bars for control. These ATV’s are to be used by one operator. These vehicles though are only ridden off road they have to be registered by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
There have always been issues with these ATV because of the safety risk they pose. In 2004, there were about 100,000 injuries caused by these cycles. The number only manages to increase every year. There have also been about 1,000 reported deaths from the vehicles over the years. There are some states that require users to be over 16 before they can ride them but other states are bit stricter and have an age limit of 18.
You can ride these ATV’s on tracks but the majority of these ATV’s are ridden on back lots of construction sites and in the woods. That is where a lot of injuries happen, most of the kids who ride these do not wear helmets and they ride them through the woods and they hit a tree because they could not get out of the way in time. For the most part, if you take the proper precaution and pay attention when driving them you can have a good time.
