According to Fox 5 Atlanta: (bolding is mine) Before our interview, we checked into Ginger White's background. We found she filed a sexual harassment claim against an employer in 2001. |
Why Do We Tune In? 'Cause It's Reality TV [Instantaneous' judgment reflects shows like 'Survivor']

(Newser) The Republican presidential debates are exerting a strong influence on this year's race, and even seem entertainingbut why? It's not just Rick Perry's penchant for the deadly 53-second pause or Michele Bachmann's ability to reinterpret US history, analysts tell the New York Times. It's our reality-TV culture of instant judgment: "Who gets kicked off the island, or who gets kicked off the talent stage, is now deeply embedded in the American culture," says campaign adviser Steve Schmidt. In bygone days, reporters hunted down campaign staff members to forge conclusions after a debate. Now, its instantaneous, Schmidt says. Its...
Palin's worst critics have no decency

Desperate. That's what critics and detractors of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin are getting, and she hasn't even announced she's running for president yet. Can you believe these people are playing, of all things, the Glen Rice card? Here's how this bit of non-news got started. Author Joe McGinniss wrote a book entitled "The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin." It's supposed to be an expose of the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate. In the book, McGinniss claims that Palin had an affair with one of her husband's business partners. According to various news reports,...
Palin-Bachmann Rancor Heats Up Below the Surface (Bachmann aides spread false rumors about Palin)
Sunday 27th of May 2012 08:21:28 AM

DES MOINES, Iowa -- I like Sarah Palin a lot, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann said at Thursdays nights Republican presidential debate. We are very good friends. Bachmanns charitable words were the latest in a long line of glowing public comments that the two potential Republican rivals have showered upon each other since 2008. But a personal relationship between the conservative female leaders has, in fact, been nonexistent for the past 16 months, as aides from Bachmanns camps have privately -- and sometimes publicly -- disparaged Palin to an extent that has caused growing exasperation in Palin world. That behind-the-scenes rancor...

Does Michele Bachmann 'Walk the Talk?'
Sunday 27th of May 2012 08:21:28 AM

ItÂs common these days to hear media talking heads refer to Michele Bachmann as the ÂTea Party favorite in the upcoming 2012 GOP primary race. Unlike Governor Palin who has always stated that the Tea Party doesnÂt need one specific leader, Bachmann has tried to cast herself into such a role. She created a ÂTea Party Caucus in congress and gave the ÂTea Party response following ObamaÂs State of the Union Address last January. The Tea Party is comprised mainly of independent-minded small government activists who are sick and tired of the way Washington is operating. These are people who...
The View - Bristol Palin (7-07-11)

WHY THIS MATTERS POLITICALLY. There are two games Governor Palin is fighting: one is the battle to take control of her political narrative, the other is taking control of her PERSONAL narrative--and this includes everything surrounding her FAMILY. Having Bristol go on The View is BRILLIANT, and does more for raising Governor Palin's political profile and stature than one may think! With Bristol giving the whole scoop about the details surrounding her pregnancy, she takes the narrative of the "dirty details" and "dirty secrets" away from the mouths of Levi Johnston and rumor-makers in the press, who would try to...
Sarah Palin: Media Making Things Up: Tears and Rages During The Undefeated? Really?
Sunday 27th of May 2012 08:21:28 AM

Obviously weve seen our share of media lies, but the latest fabrications circulated take a big slice of the cake. The UK Daily Mail reports that I was in tears as Todd rages over Hollywood stars ripping me in the new film The Undefeated. Huh? Really? The beautiful town of Pella, Iowa, was flooded with an army of media covering the premiere of this film. Youd think someone would have caught those tears and rages on tape, right? Well, heres a video of the remarks I made at the Pella Opera House right after viewing the film. The emotion clearly...
Palin NOT Reaching Out to Key Iowans Ahead of Visit

Sarah Palin appears to be designing her impending visit to Iowa to be as low-key as possible. The former Alaska governor is slated to arrive in the small Iowa town of Pella on Tuesday to attend the premiere of "The Undefeated" -- a flattering documentary that highlights her accomplishments in office and bangs the drum for a potential insurgent campaign for the Republican presidential nomination. Though she is never lacking for attention, Palin's trip figures to be scrutinized especially closely, since it will mark her first appearance this year in the nation's first voting state. Politico reported on Monday that...
Livni: World Watching Israel-US Ties

United States President Barack Obama's positions should be adopted by Israel, Opposition head Tzipi Livni said Sunday, in response to Obama's AIPAC speech. The principle of Israeli security and the need to reach the point of two national homelands, one of them the state of Israel... is primarily an Israeli interest, she stated. She later said, When Israel understands first and foremost what its own interests are, it can get support from any United States government. Livni warned that Israel needs good ties with the United States. It is important to understand that the world is watching the relationship between...

Sarah Palin's recent email to Time Magazine Congressional Correspondent Jay Newton-Small started off congenial enough. The mood soon shifted dramatically when Gov. Palin attacked the magazine over the "total lies" that had been published about her. Included in her email is not only a call for a retraction of the false stories, but a demand for an apology to Fox News' Sean Hannity and Christina Aguilera who were both included in the story Time ran.
Mother 'Killed Children in Fire to Create Drama' After her Lover Cheated

A JEALOUS mother killed two of her children when she torched the home she shared with her cheating partner, a court heard. Fiona Adams sparked the blaze to create a drama after having been left to look after their three young children while her lover was unfaithful, it is alleged. But tragically the fire started in a laundry basket by the depressed 23-year-old took a rapid and devastating hold, Nottingham Crown Court heard. It swept through the familys semi-detached home shortly before midnight, killing her daughter Niamh, five, and two-year-old son Cayden. Adams and her eight-month-old son Kiernan escaped when...
Mad Men and the Paradox of the Past

A show that divides America politically plunges into its fourth season. Mad Men is a show about an unbending generation on the cusp of dissolution; Matthew Weiner, the shows head writer, has often said that the majority of America in the early 60s was still, by and large, living in the domestic 50s. Weiner, a Baby Boomer, has a conflicted relationship with this time period. Because it is the generation of his parents, he wants to explore it and pore over it; because its the generation that, through Weiners specific political prism, reflects a hypocritical façade, hed like it to...
Media Applaud Teen Abortion on 'Friday Night Lights'

NBC's "Friday Night Lights" wants to tackle more than football players. In a bold move for scripted dramas, which usually shy away from taboo issues, the July 9 episode of the network drama featured a high school-aged character deciding to have an abortion, declaring it was "the right thing to do." The plotline earned praise from many in the media. Entertainment Weekly's Ken Tucker praised "Friday Night Lights" for delivering "one of its finest hours ever." In a July 10 blog post, The Atlantic's Tony Lee noted that he was impressed by the "nuanced, apolitical manner" that the writers used...

Dutch Country Educational Drama Malcolm A. Kline, June 22, 2010 Call it a mystery with a moral but first-time novelist John DeFrank delivers both with stunning success in Condemned to Freedom, set in a public school in the Pennsylvania Dutch Country. It should be noted that in this case Freedom is both the name of the fictional town and county the book takes place in as well as an allegorical reference to the responsibility that goes with the state of being. It is a milieu DeFrank knows well, having spent three decades plus as a teacher/counselor/administrator in the Lebanon County...
'The Pacific' review: Brutal, epic, remarkable (not really, very disappointing so far)

Like "Band of Brothers" nine years ago, HBO's World War II miniseries "The Pacific" is a massive achievement. And like its Europe-set predecessor, it's at its best when it focuses on the small things as a way of reflecting the huge story it's telling. The 10-part miniseries, which premieres at 9 p.m. ET Sunday (March 14), follows U.S. Marines as they advance across the Pacific theater of World War II, beginning with the landing on Guadalcanal in 1942 and continuing until the war's end in 1945. It's told principally through the eyes of three enlisted men: John Basilone (Jon Seda),...
'Lost' Shakespeare Play Double Falsehood Published

A play which was first discovered nearly 300 years ago has been credited to William Shakespeare. The work, titled Double Falsehood, was written by the playwright and another dramatist, John Fletcher. Theatre impresario Lewis Theobald presented the play in the 18th century as an adaptation of a Shakespeare play but it was dismissed as a forgery. But scholars for British Shakespeare publisher, Arden, now believe the Bard wrote large parts of the play. Researchers think the play is based on a long-lost work called Cardenio, which was itself based on Don Quixote. "I think Shakespeare's hand can be discerned in...

Leonardo Defilippis as Vianney: a One-man show - on-tour

Came across this on our diocesan website today - I saw Leonardo Defilippis perform The Gospel of John awhile back at a nearby parish church - it was awesome! It was a word-for-word recitation of the Gospel of John, with him doing costume changes and 'becoming' various people in the Gospel. It just bowled me over - I thought I'd pass along the info that he's now touring as Vianney. (I'm not connected in any way to the production - it was just amazing and I expect the new production will be also)
Radiyule: An Old-Time Radio Christmas

Bear in mind that some of the following actually did air on Christmas days past. But if you're any kind of old-time radio nut---and I am, certifiable, glazed, and dry-roasted---you have got to love the cornucopia of surviving Christmas-themed radio shows. (No, Virginia, this nice Jewish boy does not have a problem with what amounts to saying "Happy birthday!" to a nice Jewish boy!) You could consider the survival of these shows something of a miracle in itself. (When you consider that a lot of the original sponsors and even network outlets saw fit to trash several thousand shellac discs...

Palin Can't Win Unless She Stops The Drama

Sarah Palin learned a lot of things in her time as John McCain's running mate -- about the savagery of the media; about the duplicity of politicos; about her own gifts as a politician. But she did not learn the most important lesson of 2008: no drama. The passing months show how right Barack Obama's critics, starting with Hillary Clinton, were about his inexperience. But his supreme overconfidence prevents the caution humility would suggest. The waves are well over the bow of the ship of state now, yet Obama's White House seems to change course almost hourly. What hasn't happened...

WALTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Loganville police said they arrested a man after he entered the automobile of two female waitresses from Hooters. Police said Christopher Childers, 40, saw the two 19-year-old girls walk into a Wal-Mart to do some shopping. While they were in the store, Childers allegedly got into their car. Police said Childers found pictures of the girls in their uniforms which he placed in his truck. He then got back into the girls car to wait for them, police said. When the girls returned, one girl slammed Childers leg with the car door and the other called...
